A Challenge

When I create a layout, more often then not, they are about my girls. The layouts mainly are about every day happenings and every so often a particular holiday or event. When I look through my scrapbooks, there are not many pictures of me since I am usually the one taking the pictures. I want to change that. I am going to focus on taking more self portraits and pictures together with my girls. I want to be included in my girls life and not just be a bystander. I want the girls to know about my thoughts and feelings. I want the girls to have pictures of their mother while they were growing up. And so I challenge myself to start creating more layouts about me.

Happy Friday!

A Bump in the Road

I tried out for the Nook DT but did not make it. No biggie. It just wasn’t my time yet. Maybe next go around it will be. The new team is pretty awesome though and I am looking forward to seeing what they do with the kits. I did play along with their “lift the person above you” challenge and was lucky enough to get Zarischka. I just love her work! Here is her layout which I drew my inspiration from.

Here is my take on Zarischka's layout. I was inspired by her lovely layering.

Speaking of inspiration, I am going to call it a night. I have a few other layouts I am working on and can't wait to share them with all of you!

A Mother's Love Journal

I have been working on a fun new project over at Webster's Pages. It's a journal called A Mother's Love. You can create this journal for your own mother, like what I am doing, or you can create it for your children in your perspective of being a mother. What I love about this journal is that each day there is a prompt to help you write your journaling. Here is my page for Day 1 and Day 5.

Day 1

Day 5

You can make these journals as simple or as complicated as you would like. Come check out what Kay Rogers and I have created so far with our journals here!

After Easter Fun

Easter may be over but I am still having fun creating layouts with some of the girls' Easter pictures! Here are a couple of my most recent ones I completed.

This next one has Easter pictures but they worked so well with an Alice in Wonderland journaling prompt. Jaina absolutely loves the Tim Burton of Alice in Wonderland. I would have never guessed she would love it so much. She actually prefers it over the Disney cartoon version!

In case you are wondering where I have been lurking lately, check back tomorrow. I'll share with you a fun project I have been working on.

All Patched Up

A month ago today, Aryanna buckled a bone in her arm. She was on a school field trip and one of her classmates pushed her off the monkey bars. Her teacher felt absolutely horrible that this happened but what are you going to do? Kids will be kids and accidents happen. Two casts later, she finally has her cast off. She was one happy girl! Mommy even took her out for a special treat at Starbucks after her appointment that day.

Here is a layout I created using the In Love collection from Webster's Pages. I am really happy with how this layout turned out!

And a little close up for your viewing pleasure!

Capture the Everyday

Every day life passes us by. Sometimes there are moments that we never want to forget like weddings, birthdays, and what not. However, there are little moments every day that are just as important. They may not be at first, but down the line they are just as important as that shot of your child attempting to blow out their first birthday candle. It's these every day moments that I try to capture in my pages.

This layout is just that. An every day moment of my girls being silly and just being themselves. It's pictures like these that I tend to treasure the most. For this layout I used various papers from the Sweet Tooth collection. I hand cut some of the flowers from the Sweet Tooth Sour Cherry paper and used them to add a little whimsy to my page.

What every day moments do you want to remember? Speaking of moments, make sure to check out the new GCD Studios newsletter. It's chocked full of fun inspiration!

Easter Bunnies

I hope everyone is having a Happy Easter! The weather looks dreary here in Oklahoma. It looks like the Easter egg hunt will have to commence indoors but that is ok. It is still just as fun to hunt eggs indoors as it is outside. Do you remember the other day where I gave you a little preview of how I edit my pictures? I used that same photo for a layout using Webster's Pages. I had a bit of fun and created a flower with the In Love ribbon and place an accent in the middle to mimic the flower center.

I am off to place some baked goods in the oven. Check back later this week for another layout.

A Bit of Tweaking

The other day I gave you a little preview of how I put a layout together. Today I am going to show you what my before and after pictures look like. I hardly ever use my picture straight out of the camera. They always seem to need just a little bit of love in Photoshop. A while back I purchased an actions pack from Totally Rad Labs. I normally use several actions when I am editing my pictures. I also tweak my pictures with a blur layer and play a little with the hue/saturation.

Here is my picture straight out of the camera.

Here is my tweaked photo.

Well there you have it, another look into my creative process. How do you tweak your photos? I'd love to hear about it!

A Fun New Product from Webster's!

That's right! Webster's Pages is releasing a product for scrappers and non-scrappers alike! The first Blueprints book is called "A Mother's Love." You can create it for your own mother for Mother's Day or use it to tell your story of being a mother. There will be journaling prompts each day to help you fill out your journal. How cool is that? If you want to learn more about this fun new product, make sure to visit the Webster's Pages website here. Brandin even made a cute little video explaining the use of these journals.

Step Out

I love seeing how people create their layouts. It just amazes me at how different everyone puts a layout together. I usually print out my pictures first and then find papers that have the look I am going for. Then it's time to get my scissors out and cut away! Here is a short step out of my creative process.

First up, I start cutting pieces out of paper and lay them down on my background paper. Sometimes I push the paper around and switch things out. I actually ended up not using the pink paper on the far left but you will see that in my next step.

Next step, I lay down my pictures on my foundation elements and decide what other fun things I can add to my layout.

Here my layout is almost finished but is still missing my journaling and a little something to give the layout a finished look.

And last but not least, the finally product!

There you have it. A little peek into my creative process!
